Resistance Member Assasinated

On Wednesday, March 17, at 5:30 PM, Mr. Francisco Castillo, a member of the national resistance against the coup, was assassinated. Prior to the coup he had worked for the businesses of Miguel Facusse, but his involvement in the coup forced him to quit his job.

Mr. Castillo had housed Father Andrés Tamayo and lent him a car while the father was in the city of Tegucigalpa, he was detained on September 22 during the violent forced evacuation of the area around the Brazilian Embassy ordered by the army and the police, and later was illegally detained at the sporting complex, Chochi Sosa, where he was released following action by the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights.

Mr. Castillo and his wife were subject to systematic persecution visible to passersby in cars and motorcycles; acts which were met with complete impunity; as a result, the CODEH sought precautionary measures on December 2nd from the Interamerican Commission on Human Rights, the Commission responded on January 15, 2010, we include the official letter here:

Since that date, we have heard no information about the response of the President of the National Congress or of the Supreme Court of Justice ; we know that they have not formally communicated about this case, so the Interamerican Commission has another challenge.

What more can be done to stop the deaths???
